We have exciting news! As a result of a partnership between Tesco, the British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK, the Food Academy and Newham Council, a brand new programme called “Holiday Lunch Clubs” has just started running at the Food Academy. The Holiday Lunch Clubs are a 2-hour cooking and exercise programme for mothers and their children.
Today was an important today for us as we celebrated the opening of these clubs. It was incredible to see 70 mothers and their children from across Newham taking part in cooking lessions and learning bhangra dancing. The club ended with everyone sitting together and eating their spinach and feta cheese frittata, prepared earlier in the session. Councillor Ken Clark, Cabinet member for building communities, public affairs, planning and regeneration, also enjoyed a meal with us and spoke very highly of the Holiday Lunch Clubs. Councillor Clark described the clubs as a “win win project… bringing local people together and supporting Newham’s commitment to helping people lead healthier lives.”
We are looking forward to carrying out many more of these holiday clubs and hopefully seeing some of you there!
