Yesterday was graduation day for the first cohort of the Chef Ben Purton Food Academy’s trainees. We are also celebrating that 6 of our 13 trainees have already received great job offers. This is an incredible achievement considering that at the start of the programme, only 6 weeks ago, our trainees had limited industry skills and have not held jobs for a very long time!

Our 6 week programme provided world class culinary training with top London Chefs, followed up with placements with some of the best employers in the hospitality industry:

Our trainees told us that they have learnt so much on these amazing placements, some working with legendary Chef Stephen Munkley, others working in the team catering for the BBQ Banquet for President Trump’s state visit to the UK!

We have been overwhelmed by how much our trainee's confidence and skills have grown in these short 6 weeks and by the great feedback from our industry partners who have encouraged us to scale up the programme. 

This programme has been made possible by the dedication of our extraordinary group of trainees and the unwavering support of our amazing industry partners as well as the support of Master Chef winner Natalie Coleman. We also want to especially thank Cubitt Town Infant and Junior Schools for their work in helping us to recruit mothers to this programme; and thanks to our recruitment partners Job Centre Plus, LB Tower Hamlets, LB Newham, Anchor House (homelessness charity), Poplar Harca (housing association) and the Bromley by Bow Centre.

Finally, thanks to Bellavita Academy providing their beautiful space and the hospitality for our graduation celebration and to for allowing our trainees to become the first in the world to have free access to their on-line cookbook collection -the largest in the world!

We look forward to reporting very soon that all our trainees are all in employment and that we are starting are new programme! Watch this space.
