Get Started Cooking & Food Academy
Why Cooking with Food Academy?
Food Academy has been providing fun hands-on cooking workshops since 2011, initially set up as the first Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food in London and have been a Delivery Partner of the Prince’s Trust. We have been told that we are one of the most fun of all partners.
The sessions have been planned not only to cover the basics of cooking but to support behaviour change. We have been cooking for 8 years with thousands of people in London so we are uniquely qualified to understand the power of food to transform lives. In addition, our work has been supported by the research of top academics, including students and staff of from Kings College London and Queen Mary University.
What do participants do in our workshops?
Starting with a taster day that includes pancakes and making chocolates we ensure that the young people are fully engaged during the workshops. The young people gain hands on experience in preparing a range of dishes- including those they already love like pizza and burgers. They also develop knife skills in the kitchen and strong team work skills. Young people can gain a Food Hygiene certificate.
Food Academy, Chef Ben Purton and MasterChef winner Natalie Coleman have developed a programme to provide employment in top hotels and restaurants. These resources are available for Get Started with Cooking and Food Academy participants.
